As mentioned in the PWB thread for March, and I've possibly mentioned it before, I was bought a bass guitar for Christmas and I've been, very slowly, learning more about it.

I've wanted to learn for years and years, but never took the plunge for one reason or another so was very pleased with the Starter Kit from Gear 4 Music that Charly and the girls got me.

Shortly thereafter I purchased Rocksmith 2014 on Steam as I was told it was a good entry point and most of all fun way of learning to play it and I'm glad I did as I think I'd have found all the YouTube videos and/or apps to be a little too daunting. Ive only put in a few hours, as of tonight Rocksmith says 11 plus a couple more of me trying to train my fingers to do the things they need to do.

But it got me thinking, I'm 37 this year, and I know I'm one of the younger guys here, but it feels odd picking up a new skill at this age, particularly when I had no musical skill or interest at school (possibly due to practising scales on a Casio keyboard with a really strict teacher at school in year 7 then an over focus on classical from then on, when we did touch on the Blues in year 9 I suddenly started getting interested again but wasn't skilled enough to take the subject beyond that).

Oddly I think the pandemic has been detrimental to my practice, I was barely doing an hour a week until the kids were back at school as they just weren't going to sleep or letting me have the time I'd need to retain what I was learning.

However I know that's not the case for everyone, has anyone here been learning something new during all this time?

I'll probably also use this thread to update on my progress too 🙂
