Full disclosure - The original Catherine was one of my favourite games of all time. Even if you don't like the "adult" story and the cutscenes, the core puzzle mechanic was fantastic and challenging. Plus who can't like a game where drinking actually gives you an advantage?
So I've just played twice through the free Demo on the PS store.
Straight away there are massive additions to the story - a whole new character for you to cheat on your girlfriend with. It doesn't give you any time to wander around in the bar so I don't know if they have expanded that.
Gameplay itself doesn't seem to have changed, although I'm pretty sure one of the power ups I picked up was a new addition.
However, it was the second playthrough in remix mode that really got me excited. In remix mode, instead of all the blocks being single and moveable on their own, some of the blocks are stuck together and have to be moved altogether. They are mostly in pretty recognisable tetrimino shapes, and add a whole new dimension to the puzzle. Already on the second level there was some hint of how complex this could get, with you having to manoeuvre a single block before the tetrimino to stop other blocks dropping.
This is a day one purchase for me, and I would urge anyone who didn't try the original to play the demo.
