Can people give me some challenge ideas for Retro games? I am running a 'Classic Games Challenge' at lunch and break times where I work, the idea being there will be a different challenge each week that you need to set a score, time, complete etc.The person who is first gets 100 pts, second gets 95, third 90 and scales like that and at the end of the 6 weeks a winner will be declared with who has the best overall score.

So far I have set Original Mario Kart, Mario Circuit, best time on time trial. However I need similar ideas for games that you can have a quick go on and that has some kind of tracking method. Happy for people to try and compete too here on this forum and will track them among us too, as reward for your help.

That could be fun, there are quite a lot of retro games on the Switch NES/SNES apps for instance that most of us will have access to now. I kind of forget they're there, mostly, even though there are some real classics on there. Wouldn't know where to start in terms of challenges, though.

Somewhere on this forum we had a game challenge thing - which was largely a failure apart from me and mart playing the Vita Motorstorm game until we were both the best in the world at one fucking track which I can still see when I blink.

But I'm only half joking about Dave perry, if you look at old TV shows a lot of them have retro game challenges which might provide inspiration.

I vaguely remember some of our previous challenges. I played the first level on some vertically-scrolling shmup until I could do the required movements on the controller with the game turned off. I think we all played Micro Machines, possibly the toilet seat level. Ilweran set a score on Drop7 that was so exponentially ahead of everyone else that people started demanding proof. It was fun, and more succesful than when we passed around a copy of some terrible game with everyone completing a level before the game went missing.

I'm saying you should look to Dave Perry for inspiration.

Mart could dust off his white tux!

There must be plenty of dumb shit like that you could all be doing with your Xbox Live libraries.

Yeah that's a good shout.

Week 2 next week I am doing paperboy, been on the classic games challenge site that ran in 14,15 and going to copy off there for a bit.

So just finished the first 'season' of this. It's gone down really well. two students and two different members of staff have been the dominant players, but had 24 total players and about 8 regulars, the first season has been decided by one week where due to covid and illness only two people took part (claiming 100 and 95 points whilst no one else scored)

Also going to have at least one Mario Kart round on as it's always crazy popular, and a couple of the students have gotten really good at it as I showed them the Orange E technique.

Getting a trophy made up and then an honour board, that a plaque with the winners name will go on.
