I'm very glad I've put the invincible mode on. I'd have got so angry last night without it. I'm finding it's perfectly playable with no risk at all, and it's surprisingly relaxing to just potter about and explore when you know you don't have to be scared of every little lobster.

I'm currently

Spoiler - click to showin a cathedral facing some kind of… not boss rush, because they're regular enemies and you can choose the order you face them in. All seem manageable, except one group of magicians who can target you from miles away and teleport when you're close enough to attack.

I don't want to turn on invincibility. I really don't.

I get frustrated enough at how obtuse the thing is at times - dying repeatedly on top would just sour the experience completely. I do still try and fight "properly", even just to see if I can train myself to the point where I could consider turning it off, but I'm just not that good at it.

Having taken a couple of days' break from it was A Bad Idea, though, because I spent most of my last session just trying desperately to remember where anything is.

Got one of the keys, then stumbled onto the second entirely by accident while exploring somewhere I'd already briefly been; just Blue left, and while I expect it's going to go on a while yet, I still feel like I've missed loads - there are tons of still-inaccessible(?) chests around the overworld, and I think I'm missing at least one ability?

I still don't know what any of the less-obvious notes on the manual pages really mean, and I unlocked an achievement with the description "understood the margin of page 17", but I have absolutely no idea how I did it.

It feels that way for me too, though based on where I am and something I've found, I think I know what it is? Maybe? We'll see.

Confused though, how are you still missing Blue if you've been to the Quarry? Unless I'm misremembering.

Spoiler - click to showRed is in the Forest Fortress guarded by the Siege Engine, Green is through the Ruined Atoll after killing the Librarian and Blue is in the Ziggurat under the Quarry where the Scavenger leader is.

Spoiler - click to showYou must have used enough throwable bombs (fire, ice, explosive) to trigger the bonus. The more you use, the more 'extra' ones you earn - there'll be a +1 or more next to one of them. Read the bit along the bottom of the page. Bombs are great! Absolutely worth using.

I'll tell you one thing I don't like, ever (not just in games like this): secrets where there's absolutely no indication of something being there.

Spoiler - click to showI've found three chests - one containing a big coin! - where it was almost guesswork that something was hidden. One was out by the Atoll under a magic pillar… I tried to roll but didn't press a direction and it triggered the wall to move aside. Another was actually indicated subtly on a manual page: there's a chest near the start that's out of reach near a door, but the entrance doesn't appear to exist. On the map, there's an arrow pointing at a blank wall, so I threw a bomb at it and boom, entrance. I also found a similar exploding wall totally by accident in the Quarry, because someone threw a bomb at me that demolished it. Stuff like that is just annoying because bombs are a finite resource… you could waste them all looking for stuff and not find anything.

F2da1fde4198a198a7bf28a0bb9e4924?s=156&d=identicon

And now I have done all three keys.

Uh…

Found another bombable wall, and have three card slots, but there's still a bunch of places I can see and not reach. Is there some kind of Spoiler - click to showjump or short-range blink/teleport thing?

I also went looking online and found a guide to the in-game writing script. I haven't gone to the effort of translating anything yet, but it's a fascinating piece of work.

Can't say, because it'd spoil stuff. But the ability I think we're missing is something that allows access to unreachable areas, yeah.

So, I'm at a crossroads (metaphorically). General summary, which doesn't really spoil much if anything:

Spoiler - click to showOne ending is a boss fight and I'm ready for it. The other involves unraveling one gigantic puzzle and while I have all the pieces, I'm struggling to put them all together. I think I know what to do, but it just doesn't seem to be working as expected.

More detail which DEFINITELY spoils stuff:

Spoiler - click to showSpecifically related to the Fairy spread of the manual, I've managed to 'save one soul' in the secret gathering place. I've also worked out how the Seeking Spell works, and have used it to find key spots in the Eastern Vault, Great Library, East Forest and West Garden. But repeating the thing I did in the gathering place to make something appear does… nothing. Unless I'm doing it wrong, but I don't think I am because I drew the pattern on paper. I'll have to go back and try to see what I'm getting wrong here.

I really, really, REALLY don't want to look up the answer here, because I can feel that I'm so close. I haven't even started on

Spoiler - click to showpage 49 of the manual to try and unlock the door in the mountains… I know what it is, I just haven't started working on it yet.

I also don't want to go get one ending if it then means not being able to reload… I don't want to start over. Hmmm.

Spoiler - click to showCompleting the manual is the only way to unlock the other (good) ending. You also need page 1 to get one of the secret treasures.
