Nicked this thread idea from another forum because I thought it was quite interesting.

I'm missing a surprisingly high number - 26 (where I've never played any of the game whatsoever):

Spoiler - click to showContra, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, Ninja Gaiden (NES), Daytona USA, NBA Jam, Phantasy Star 4, Secret of Mana, Earthbound, X-COM: UFO Defense, Nights into Dreams, Ultima Online, Panzer Dragoon Saga, Starcraft, Everquest, Homeworld, Max Payne, Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Dead Space, Red Dead Redemption, Dark Souls, Mass Effect 3, Dota 2, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Overwatch

Dishonored just snuck on there as I started it a few days ago, and The Witcher 3 has been on my list to play for ages, but the others have totally passed me by.

I'm guessing keeping up with lists of this type will become even harder over time due to the sheer amount of stuff being released these days.

That's a longer list ran I was expecting when I opened the thread; I've played 101 of them (for certain; others - like the original Sims, or Metal Gear Solid 2 - I can't remember if I played them, or only played a demo).

I've played 118, though there are some big-name absentees from my list - most of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, for instance.

Mr Party Hat

I've played 134. If you take away the ones I've played for all of 60 seconds, on emulators, I've probably played 120.

I was missing quite a few of the older ones, but from Majora's Mask onwards there are only 3 I haven't played.

Haha nope, DOTA, Dark Souls and Melee.

I played MGS3 on the vita (we didn't get along), and I played FFX for a few hours before getting bored. There was a ship, and a beach, and I was twatting people with a volleyball. I don't really remember it.

FUCK. I remembered you played FFX and were utterly…'amazed' by Wakka and his accent. At least I got Melee though….

I take issue with a lot of those games being "best" anything, and not just new ones! Games like Gauntlet and Contra are good, fine, but "best"? There are a lot of old games that are so much better than those games. But you know, fine, whatever. People love a lot of bad games COUGHMARIO64HACKWHEEZE.

What a surprise, almost all new games, the opposite of everyone else. Y'all need to play some old games.

I'm missing about 14 although there's about another ten which I probably only played for about a minute before passing the controller back or moving on to another display pod or whatever.

I'm not sure I can complete this assessment correctly. I mean, I've been around to long enough to have played all of them, and some of the obvious standouts that I haven't touched are ones I'd never have an interest in (so, Sim City, C&C, Baldur's Gate). But then others, my brain and memories don't seem to match. Have I actually played Ms. Pac-Man? I've played Myst, but was it the original or one of the others? And so on and so on. I honestly can't remember and don't want to just assume.

To that end then, I'm not even going to attempt it.

The number of people who haven't played Breath of the Wild is giving me anxiety.

But weapon degradation though!!!!

Even I played it. I didn't care much for it though I can understand people liking it, but I played a bit of it.

It's worrying difficult to be sure how many of those games (especially the older ones) I've played, and how many I've just played a demo of, or a minute of at a friends, or even not at all, but feel like I have.

I think I'm in the 125-130 range in terms of how many I've actually played (at least briefly), with another 10-15 I own/have owned (even just on PS+, etc), but have never actually played.

If I actually gamed properly on PCs, or had earned more Nintendo consoles I'd have a bit of a better number. Maybe if I do get that Switch at some point I'll be able to fill in a few blanks.

There's a few games missing from that list.
Canon Fodder
Ikaruga
Patapon 2
De Blob 2
Earth Defence Force
Bastion

Basically every good cartoon platformer not made by Nintendo.
Jak & Daxter
Beyond Good & Evil
Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 get a mention but they skip Flower, and Mass Effect 1?

I never finished that and found what I did play largely middle of the road, is there a big twist or something? Always wondered why it's so well thought of.

is there a big twist or something ?

Let's just say that there's a reason every conversation about it on The Society turns into the repeated phrase, "Keep going".

"Shit" might be a little harsh, but it's no more than a 7/10. Without the twist it would be totally forgettable.

It’s a shit game with a great twist.

Calling it 'shit' is a bit harsh. It's a decidedly 5/10 game, outside of the story development. But it works, you can play it, it's not terrible. There's much worse out there.

It's a videogame which actually has something to say which is rare enough. The fact that it says it so well and that it is a commentary on violence as entertainment makes it one of the most important games of the 360/PS3 generation.

But sure if you are talking gameplay Edge would give it a 5/10, Games(tm) would give it a 7 (Better than Dark Sector / Worse than Uncharted 2), and Old Society a functional/10.

The fact that's it's mechanically the same as hundreds of other 7/10 shooters actually helps to hammer home the message.

I doubt it was intentional, but it helps.

That, and the fact that Kevin Spacey was putting the limp on all along, the cheeky scamp.

It was apparently intentional. They were making another military shooter, they decided to make it worth their while.

This list does annoy me a bit though, it's very US-centric as always with lots of NES and SNES games and absolutely nothing apart from Elite and Lemmings to represent the classic 8-bit and 16-bit games from the UK. (And I bet they were thinking of the NES version of Elite too, the bastards). Any list without at least some representation from the likes of Jetpac, Jet Set Willy, Knight Lore, Uridium, Head Over Heels, Speedball 2 or Dungeon Master really isn't complete.

F685c54cae853f335494667cd79fcd9a?s=156&d=identicon

It's US-centric because these things are always written by US folk who think they know best. That'll never change. See also: the fact that the entry for the Sega Mega Drive is listed under Genesis, despite the fact that it was called Mega Drive in two thirds of the world. Sigh.
