Yes, that's right, another Monster Hunter game…..with a twist, and a rather well executed one at that.
Monster Hunter Stories is an RPG set in the MH universe, only this time your job is as much to bond with Monsters and fight alongside them as it is to fight them. And you don't need sick skillz to fight, it uses a rock-paper scissors combat system where Power beats Speed, Speed beats Tech and Tech beats Power (or some arrangement of the three) where getting a monsters pattern down rewards you with more damage. The main thing about this game is you fight alongside a Monster from the series, the demo one I got so far was…Velocidrome, he did his own thing regarding the trinity system but I think maybe when I bond with him more I can make him do what I want because if you line up the same attack you do a double team skill for more damage.

I got up to the Nargacuga boss fight and the more right choices I made, the more Kinship I got with Velocidrome when it was maxed it let me hop in his back and we combined our strength as a sort of 'ultimate', as far as combat systems go I found it really fun so far since you have strategy and the need to pay attention to certain monster/boss patterns. Aside from that, it's got Gathering on the dungeons/fields like MH, finding monster carves after battle like MH, probably crafting like MH too, and the whole feel of the game captured the series perfectly then translated it to an aesthetic much less rough and OTT style than MHGU.
And the whole thing just oozes charm, everything is Monster Hunter…but cute (Baby Rathalos is CUTEEEE and the only one I will allow to live, though my first instinct when it hatched was 'drown it'). There's a demo on the 3DS store now BUT it was recently released on iOS for 19.99 I believe? And there's a demo on there too I hear, not only that but I hear some people say it's even a superior version of the game in some respects and that's kinda crazy.
The fact that it looks that much sharper on iOS than 3DS is insane.
