OK, so that PC I was talking about buying a graphics card for? Well its drive wasn't working either and it's USB ports were dodgy so I decided "Fuck this" and returned it whence it came.

The good news is that we have pooled the refund for that, the money we were going to spend on a new graphics card and Owen's birthday money and we are planning to buy a new tower for him. Trying to shop for this stuff is not fun so I am looking for advice.

This is I think the best we can find: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00AU4LP0U/ref=cm_sw_r_em_tai_JcM3Ab0VVWX6K

We are looking at spending £400-£450 on it. Is this a reasonable deal? Is there somewhere supercheap we should be buying instead?

All help welcome!

Amazon is usually pretty solid and prices are more or less uniform across the board unless you do silly things.

That looks good though! It's a cool case if you're into that sort of thing, the hardware looks good and there looks like there's acres of room for upgrades later on down the line should that be a thing you're into.

What does “Windows 10 Trial included” mean? Is there a hidden cost whereby you have to pay for a Windows licence further down the line?

Yes, there is an option where it comes with Windows 10 but you pay a bit more. We are going to try and make sure we get that one, but the Amazon muti-listing is a bit vague.

I might lean more towards that second one. It's got 16 gigs of RAM, plus there's no weird Windows 10 Trial thing going on. At this point you can get windows 10 for free, though, so I don't see why there'd be a trial option?

Can't you only get Windows 10 free if it's an upgrade? (I have done no investigation into this myself, Mrs Bloodaxe might already know the answer…)

It was officially only available for free for a limited period as an upgrade from 7, 8 or 8.1, but there’s usually a workaround for these things.

I think it's about £20 on top of the price of the computers to get them with full Windows 10. Which seems reasonable.

I would be pretty suspect of that. It's got half the ram of the other one and that graphics card is not really up to the one you linked previously.
