DS. Actually the first time I've played this was the DS version, I remember the DS exclusive content being a bit mixed which if true just goes to show that the game is perfect as is, I do believe this one has an ending that has more links to Cross though?
There's also a PSone version, but I think it's really just the SNES version.
I hear the PSone version has atrocious loading so that's out for me just for that, I suppose there's also iOS but that's whatever. AFAIK the only reason people would prefer the SNES is the ability to play on TV, which is not my problem but interestingly something to think about for Cross where if I wanna' play the Remastered version I can't play on any handheld, rip.
Is Chronotrigger on the Switch?
No. It’s on PC though I think, probably the easiest way to play it “legit” these days.
No way am I ever bringing my Switch into the big, scary outside to be dropkicked out of my hands by some cunt on the tram. I wish I could but that's the world we live in.
Chrono Cross is interesting, I tested it out on my Retroid Pocket to see what the PS1 version is like and it seemed fine actually, got the end of the in media res opening and decided I liked it enough to buy the Radical Dreamer Edition on PS4. The opening this time gave me a different 3rd Party Member to the one I had on the RP2, I know this game has like 40 playable characters so maybe it's a random pull from that pool…
I played after that and I like combat more now I understand it better, not Trigger's Tech combat levels of fun but not trash either. I played up until you enter a Parralel Dimension that seems identical to the one you start in with the big difference being that in the new one, you died. Trigger dealt with time travel, this seems to be about alternate universes? like I said, interesting, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hooked by the colorful graphics and story so far!
Chrono Cross is great. You are right that the third character in the intro is random. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the story.
I'll say this so far, I really like the combat system. It's way better than I gave it credit for, you risk more damage for lower accuracy attacks and vice versa, higher level attacks give you more energy to do magic and also you have to manage stamina that goes down faster the stronger attacks you use and stops you attacking if you have none or even negative levels of it. :blobsweat:
I always judge RPG combat systems on how magic is used in relation to everything else, in FF they're usually just elemental weakness nukes, in Persona they are integral for knocking enemies down, in Trigger you had one element for every party member and that's where the dual techs come in (Luca can cast fire on Crono's sword just as he's about to do a jumping slash). Here you make your own grid and you have to use it strategically and plan when to use it and when to blow all that stamina, thinking ahead with the field effects and whatnot..etc
Game good, I will never listen to the internet again tbh.
