My partner is largely ambivalent to boardgames (though likes quite a few) but hasn't played a videogame since the SNES era. She expressed an interest in us playing a game on our phones (we live about 35 miles apart so only see each other infrequently) and this was something to add over the top of using Messenger and Skype for general chatting.
Can you think of an Android (or Vita) game, paid is OK, which features async gameplay, a low bar of entry, but fairly interesting, decent for 2, maybe boardgame-esque and isn't toe curlingly embarrassing? I had thought Everybody's Golf on Vita but the fucking servers are off.
There are some pretty good conversions of actual boardgames out there. Carcassone's great on iPhone (and allows you to play with more expansions than you'd feasibly ever have time to set up for a real session) but I've heard the Android version is a bit poor (different devs). Something like Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small would be good for two players though, and I'm sure there are plenty of others.
I'm not sure any of them support asynchronous turns. I have quite a few boardgame apps, but most don't :(
On iPhone, I can vouch that Carcassonne, Ascension and Ticket to Ride (and I think Lords of Waterdeep) all do, but I'm not up to speed with Android stuff so not really sure there I'm afraid.
Looks like Le Havre supports asynchronous play - everyone likes a bit of Uwe.
Galaxy Trucker is the only thing which comes to mind right now.
Ooh, Le Harve. I like the boardgame version of that (we played it the other night).
Yes, good suggestion.
Antihero is on Android, right? That might fit the bill, and I’m pretty sure it can be played asynchronously.
