The best game ever made gets a sequel!

Basically it's Hyrule Warriors x Breath of the Wild. This is going to be immense. Out this November.

Knew you'd be excited/interested. Been fun to sit on this for a few months and imagine your reaction, it's my project at work.

It's crazy how the best Dynasty Warriors spin off was a Zelda game. Not trying to look down on Zelda or anything but I would have thought Fire Emblem would have at least overtaken it or something.

You have a much more interesting job than me. This was a genuine surprise, and I'm absolutely all over this on day one. Are you allowed to say whether it continues the first game's tradition of having an absolutely insane amount of content, or are you NDA'd up?

Fire Emblem Warriors was good, but unless you're really familiar with the characters, it's all a bit "anime guy with sword", "other anime guy with sword", "anime girl with tits". And it's a bit dour. Whereas Zelda is bright, colourful, has iconic characters we all know and just genuinely goes nuts with the concept.

I'm encouraged by the fact that the pre-order bonus for Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity appears to be a massive ladle to hit things with.

Come on… my contract IS the NDA. I'd like to keep my job. :)

Can't wait to destroy an army of 500 on screen Guardians as Urbosa by summoning the giant Camel to rear up and slam his hooves into the ground then blanket the entire map in thunder

It’s at this point I realise that I can’t remember who any of the characters in Breath of the Wild actually were.

The original Hyrule Warriors has a fairly limited roster for the main story (and includes a couple of original characters) - most of the characters join for the Adventure mode and other side activities. So there’s no reason they couldn’t bring back some old favourites, they don’t need a reason.

I’m really hoping this includes a shit ton of characters and a massive Adventure mode, but the original took two season passes and three versions to get to its final form so I’m guessing I should temper my expectations. Hopefully at least they’ll have a decent frame rate in handheld mode this time.

There’s a demo up now and I’m gutted to say this isn’t the game I wanted, at all.

The original Hyrule Warriors was a glorious toy box made up of characters, levels and weapons from across the entire series - it never took itself seriously and was an incredibly “gamey” title with hundreds of hours of play if you wanted it.

This is… a prequel to Breath of the Wild. You’ll watch a load of cutscenes, play for a couple of minutes then watch a load more cutscenes. I’m not sure who wanted a story-heavy follow-up to such a famously open-ended game but there you go. It looks nice but the frame rate is really sickly, the Switch has never felt so underpowered. It takes itself extremely seriously.

I’m sure it’ll find it’s audience. Given the popularity of Breath of the Wild, it may even appeal to more people than the original Hyrule Warriors did. But not me. Sorry.

I just beat the demo and I'm absolutely blown away by how much fun this series is….again. I dunno' about all the BOTW stuff (surely it was advertised as such though?) in terms of how limiting it will be on the open ended mayhem of the last game, but if Impa is anything to go by then we're in for a hell of ride with some of the character's we're gonna get, she is absolutely insane to play as and feels delightfully straight from the craziness of last game.

So far it is very BOTW yeah, I have faith if it does indeed take place all in BOTW Hyrule's map that the individual levels themselves will still be really great (I can't imagine we won't get the N64/Gamecube/Snes levels as sidequest stuff right? Or have they no no'd that already). We know what I think about BOTW though, so I'm obviously very biased.

EDIT - Never mind, the demo is still going lmao

EDIT 2 - Holy shit how much is in this demo?

Mr Party Hat

The demo for this made me go back to the original. I'd completed the story mode but not touched adventure mode. (I know, that's 99.9 percent of the game still to go.)

I just wish it had more maps. The whole of Zelda history to draw upon, and it's never really all that evocative. I'd take one more map over the 7000 adventure missions.

Twatting a hundred bokoblins at once is still great fun, though.
