I couldn't find a dedicated Star Wars thread, merge if there is one! EU, Canon, whatever.
Is the Acolyte any good? I remember it getting trashed, but wasn't sure whether that was because the main character is a woman and geek fandoms are cesspits.
I didn't watch it. I got the impression that it got the usual unjustified attention for people who hate women, but also it was quite bad.
There does seem to be a depressingly high crossover between 'Disney media that twats want to fail' and 'Disney media that's objectively shit'.
I've also just realised that The Acolyte was cancelled after one season, anyway, so probably not worth getting invested.
We watched an episode or two, and I wanted to like it, but the whole thing felt a bit am-dram.
EDIT to expand/clarify: I mainly think it was quite poorly directed. There are some good performers in there, but not many of them give very good performances, and the editing isn't well-paced, so it all runs a bit baggy. And the plot (what we saw of it) was only slightly more nuanced than, "From my point of view, the Jedi are evil!".
Acolyte was unwatchable after about 20 minutes. It had some vague promise up until that point.
I think, ultimately, unless you're a Mandalorian truther like Garwoofoo, basically it goes like…
Andor S1 > Andor S2 > XWing tabletop game > Rogue 1 > original trilogy [KESSEL RUN SIZED GAP] all the other shit
And a smattering of some decent comics and videogames at various points in the void.
The Acolyte is a fairly average show with a couple of standout moments. Manny Jacinto is great as Qimir and the lightsaber fights are probably the best they’ve ever been. The rest is quite forgettable. Watch Skeleton Crew instead.
I'm waiting for a Skeleton Crew megacut with the kids removed.
Aftermath (the novel) is good! Its reputation is in tatters online because one of the characters is gay (peoplearefuckingidiots), so I was rooting for it from page one. And it's really enjoyable. It's very much A Romp, written in the present tense with something exciting happening on every page. But it's a well-written Romp, and it does wonders for fleshing out what actually happened after Return of the Jedi.
There are 3 of these, apparently, and I'm looking forward to spending some more time in its world.
