It's here! Just in time for social distancing and unending virus-fuelled anxiety.
We're still waiting for Amazon to deliver Minx's AC-edition Switch, and I've been very well-behaved so far, not booting up my own copy until she gets hers. I didn't think I was actually all that bothered about it beyond a nice way to spend time, but as of midnight last night I am desperate to get started.
I've already broken one bug net, I'm such a hardcore bug catching LAD.
I've added people who've recently put their friend codes into threads. My username is Scampi64 – on Switch and most other stuff.
Friend code: 2385 0902 0518
How does this work then - I’ve heard it’s one island per Switch? So if you only have one console then you all have to share the same island even if you have different profiles?

Yep. If you want different islands, you need a Switch each. It's because of the way save files are stored on Switch (system level, not this particular game).
AND YET. Before anyone says anything, this is absolutely no different to any previous AC game. On DS and 3DS, the save was on the cart so if you wanted different towns, you needed different copies of the game. On Wii, the save was also on the system, so everyone had to live together. On GameCube, you needed different memory cards for each unique town.
Because of the fact that this is the first time such a thing has been communicated as an issue by Nintendo, it's an issue. It's never been an issue before. Oh well. C'est la animale vie.
My island, Fort Filth (like Fort Boyard, but worse) is relatively stocked, as you might expect. I have all fruit and even bamboo, plus various shops. All visitors welcome, just don't trample my flowers you filthy animals.
Do I really have to wait 'til tomorrow before anyone can visit my island? When I go into the airport, it tells me there aren't any flights today.
I get the same thing. I assume it's to slow the learning curve.
I think there’s a big difference between “you need to buy a second copy of the game” and “you need to buy a whole new console” in order to have separate islands, but I’m not going to argue, I think we all know they could have worked around this but Nintendo gonna Nintendo.
Have fun everyone!
Spent ages trying to nap… Didn't notice that cheeky Nook gave me a cot in my inventory 🙄

EDIT: No, I'm wrong. It really is the next day. GAH.
I've paid off my moving costs and upgraded my pockets, but I still don't have a shovel.
I think I'm approaching this too much like a checklist of stuff to do though, which is entirely the wrong mindset. I'm either going to do everything I reasonably can and never return, or I'm going to burn out and abandon it. Need to chill out a bit.
I think once there are more residents and shops to interact with I'll be less Nook Miles-obsessed, though. For now there's not much else to do but fill my pockets with fish and bugs while desperately seeking the raccoon mob's approval and trinkets.
Exactly. Go at it too hard and it just becomes a chore - plus you'll butt up against 'Oh, why can't I do X?' instances far more often, where the opportunities just aren't available yet. Slow down. It's a long haul game.
So I just tried to visit one of your islands but it said there are none you can visit at the moment. Does the other person need to be online at the time?
I assumed I could just nip in when you were offline, nick some fruit, leave you a board message etc.
MPH: Seonaid is playing just now and she has just sent you a friend request and opened the gates to Cinamon Island.
Mart: We have successfully got the whole family playing on one download AC purchase. We cant have residents of the family island visit seonaids island though. Nintendo Online give us a big "Stop pushing you luck" message.
We are happy though.
Also my son's girlfriend was upset because we won't let him visit her tomorrow (pandemic obv), so I gave her my preordered cart from Smyths. Apparently her squee of joy almost broke Discord.

Nope, islands have to be online and have their gates open before you can visit.
If someone on your friends list is online and has their gates open, you can go to the airport and search for them to travel to. There's a secondary mechanic that makes it even easier - when you visit someone's island, you can use the Best Friends app in your NookPhone to make them a 'best friend'. You can also send these invites to anyone on the island, not just the owner. Then, if a best friend comes online in the game, you'll get a notification and can send them text messages through the game via the Best Friends app. Easier to coordinate gate opening that way.

Just tried to visit, got a disconnect error on your end as I was coming in. :(
Me and my son were playing D&D so the internet was working pretty hard.
I hope you enjoy the suit I gave Seonaid for you.
I haven't seen it yet, but I will be sure to get it before I go to bed.
Animal Crossing is so good.
Animal Crossing is so good.
I won't say I told you so, because I couldn't due to NDA. But I was thinking it reeeeeeeeeally hard.
Right, head count of who's playing? Let me know if we want to all congregate on my island at some point, so I can add you all to my Best Friend app on NookPhone. Then, whether you're online or not, we can send gifts through the airport mail to each other. :)
Minx and I are playing, when we can do so without the four year old demanding a turn…
We'll also need to coordinate turnip prices.
We'll also need to coordinate turnip prices.
Indeed. Already doing this within my work group, but that definitely needs to be a thing here too. Afternoon prices are obviously going to be easier to arrange visits for, since morning ones are only active for four hours (8am-12pm) compared to eight for afternoon ones (12-10pm).
I'm playing. We need a WhatsApp group or a Discord server or something to notify us when people are available.
Although if you see me online, give me a shout.
Although if you see me online, give me a shout.
Can't do that from within the game unless you're on the Best Friend list, hence my suggestion of everyone meeting up on my island.
I can throw my gates open whenever today, people can just shout. :)
Ok
Little Miss Bloodaxe isn't feeling well so she has claimed the Switch for now. I will recovery it later, disinfect it, and visit your village.
Yeah I'm free most of today. I'll keep checking the thread and hopefully time it well with other people going on!
Okay, so here's the plan: I'm going to open my gates at 13.30 (in less than ten minutes at time of posting). The gates will stay open for an hour. Please feel free to come over, see my shop, buy things from the fashion store.
Rules: don't run through my flowers please, cut down trees or smash rocks. Take fruit if you want it, the orchard is on the left corner of the island (but save some for other people). Ping me a best friend request from the app on your NookPhones when you're visiting, I'll accept later as I'm currently working.
Visit Kicks! He's in the plaza.
Anyone else finding that rapidly transforming your little slice of Island wilderness into a bustling village is a little sad like Shadow of the Colossus?
Am I over thinking it?

JEEZ BRI, STOP RUINING IT.
Bring a raincoat, it's pissing down.
I don't have you as a switch friend yet!

I hope you’re all observing social distancing guidelines.
The further away, the better.
My turnip price is 188 bells if anyone is dabbling in the stalk market.

You haven't seen the Nook Miles islands when Minx is finished with 'em…

I bought 7,600 of them this weekend.
+100% profit minimum or I'm out. :)
JEEZ BRI, STOP RUINING IT.
I'm going to buy another Switch, load up Animal Crossing and play on my almost deserted island every day and never talk to anyone.
Actually I'd probably be better just playing some more No Man's Sky.
Animal Crossing noob. What's the deal with turnips?
Also Mart's Island is a lot more advanced than mine. I have a shack and some trees. Thanks for hosting us though! I borrowed/stole an orange and cherry, and avoided trampling any flowers.
Also a duck told me your secret nickname is gorgeous egg, and that you make all the animals on the island call you it. So that's a thing.
Here we are having an absolute riot:

Here's a thing I wrote about the Stalk Market for the last game. I'm not sure if the pricing pattern info is true for this version but I imagine it's not too far from it.

Thanks! I'll keep an eye out on Sunday.
It's so heartwarming to see AC pics/clips because the villager models are always so happy and smiling lol

I love Sow Joan (Dow Jones) and the stalk (stock) market. I have no idea what pun is being intended by Daisy Mae. If anyone knows, please tell me because it's driving me mad.

I've been playing for over a month now. It was still winter when I started!
