It's not, it randomly came into my head earlier and thought I'd share the earworm with everyone else!!

I FINISHED THE PATCH QUESTS THANK CHRIST.

That's a whole lot of plot dumped into the last cutscene! Excited to finally start on the new content now.

Mr Party Hat

Be warned: when you hit Heavensward, literally every character's voice changes because they changed voice studios and replaced every actor. It's VERY jarring, though probably on balance overall an improvement. Some of them are very different indeed.

You weren't lying. The 'middle eastern' characters are all suddenly from Sheffield.

Can you confirm whether Alphinaud (The elf twin in blue :P) changed? I know he's always been a posh twat so I can't remember. There's a character in Heavensward you encounter you've never met before, yet Wev will have gone through some shit with him and even get a different line of text about the Dragoons from him, really nice for the Dragoons actually.

5599f06e028e515664973070f24c5119?s=156&d=identicon

Mr Party Hat

Yeah he changed. He used to sound like a cod-Thesp (as they all did). Now he sounds age appropriate.

Pretty much everyone has improved to be honest, except maybe the admiral of Limsa. She doesn't sound gruff enough.

The big loss is Urianger, I think. He was easily the best of the lot, pre-Heavensward. He's distinctly mediocre thereafter. You're right about Merlwyb, too.

5599f06e028e515664973070f24c5119?s=156&d=identicon

Mr Party Hat

See I can't stand Urianger. Not the VA, he's just written in that awful Ye Olde style, he's like a satire of crap fantasy.

"Verily, thou hast forsaken us, m'lady."

Give me more of the big brown Huddersfield massive.

Spoiler - click to showThe Azure Dragoon?

I struggle to remember half of these people and what's happened to them tbh

Spoiler - click to showthere was a woman in the post Heavensward content that died but had a pretty cool story arc, I think she was friends with Minfillia? Can't remember her name though

Have you don't any of the Hildibrand stuff yet @"Mr Party Hat" ?

The thing with Urianger is that the dialogue is terrible but the original voice actor actually kind of made it work. The newer guy just plays it straight and it’s crap.

Wev, yeah, him. If you do the DRG quests before Heavensward he recognises you which is pretty cool.

5599f06e028e515664973070f24c5119?s=156&d=identicon

Mr Party Hat

Go do the Hildibrand stuff :) Look up the first quest and go for it. It's a… change of pace.

Ahhhh I actually abandoned the blue quest that starts it, just before entering Ishgard. I had 27(!) unfinished blue quests from ARR. And after the patch quest slog, I couldn't bring myself to work through more ARR content, so I abandoned them all to make space in my log. Even knowing blue quests unlock content.

I'll go back and re-do the Hildibrand quest.

Mr Party Hat

Can someone explain chocobo companions to me? The internet makes it sound very confusing.

I basically forgot I had a chocobo companion. Just summoned him, and he's the same level as me, but doesn't have any skill points to spend.

I killed a couple mobs and he got about 1000xp. I stabled and 'trained' him and he got about 1000xp, with a 1hr cooldown. But the internet says stabling is the fastest way to level him. How can that be the case, if I got the same XP in 30 seconds as stabling gave in one hour?

A01e054d1cc3d0f9deabf58648dafcd3?s=156&d=identicon

wev

I've only ever stabled mine to feed it fruits to change its colour, never knew they got exp from being stabled.

5599f06e028e515664973070f24c5119?s=156&d=identicon

Mr Party Hat

Doh. Looks like my error was levelling from 15 to 55 without the chocobo summoned, then. 😅

I now have a healer chocobo who heals me for 75 damage.

Ebe71aac853092062596ff1844b992fc?s=156&d=identicon

Alastor

It's possible the info is out just of date, even so, unless you wanna' really power him up I'd just take him with you, buy as many Gysahl Greens as possible.

And the skill trees are basially Tank/DPS/Healer so depending on your class you can choose to put points in the relevant skill if you need to. I dunno if healer skills are gonna' save your ass faster than just the two of you killing something before you get killed yourself and I also can't see the Tank skill tree (unless they've changed something) actually holding aggro so I'd just let it go full damage honestly, the little help during solo adventures is pretty nice!

You can change the colour and look of your Chocobo too, but assuming you haven't done so do the quest to give him a sadlebag for more inventory space.

https://ffxiv.consolegameswiki.com/wiki/My_Feisty_Little_Chocobo

I've been so busy with Persona 5 I haven't touched the new patch that came out yesterday.

5599f06e028e515664973070f24c5119?s=156&d=identicon

Mr Party Hat

Okay my chocobo is in slightly better shape now, thanks all! And I have a very nice guild who always feed him when I'm away.

Heavensward really is a step up in quality isn't it. Also, I love how much Iceheart loves the moogles.

"That I should be distracted by mere floofy… woofy…"

And yes the Hildibrand quests certainly are something. Those and Heavensward have injected something that was missing - a sense of humour. World of Warcraft never takes itself seriously, which works massively in its favour. A Realm Reborn is mechanically excellent but very po-faced. It doesn't realise how ridiculous it all is.

From Heavensward onwards, they seem to be growing a little self awareness.

Have you met his dad yet? I can't remember when he comes into it I just distinctly remember the game making you oiling his semi naked, muscular body up.

Enjoying flying yet?

5599f06e028e515664973070f24c5119?s=156&d=identicon

Mr Party Hat

No I've only done a couple Hildibrand quests. I've oiled him up something fierce though.

And yes loving flying! It's so freeing. I think the unlock system is pretty clever too, the aether points never feel like a chore. I've just arrived at Moghome. I'm ignoring side quests, aside from the blue unlock ones. I don't think the side quests are all that exciting, usually.

If you use a female character on this then when you're playing Stormblood it becomes a bit like FFXV's bro-trip but with a female cast

5599f06e028e515664973070f24c5119?s=156&d=identicon

Mr Party Hat

I finished Heavensward in less time than I finished the ARR>Heavensward patch quests.

I know there's a huge amount of Heavensward content I've missed – that the MSQ is only a fraction of what's there – but it really highlights how silly those patch quests are. Is there a similar grind now between where I am, and Stormblood?

Mechanically this is easily the best MMO I've ever played. I still don't think it's quite as magical as WoW; it doesn't have the same sense of place, and it never feels like a living, breathing world in the same way. But the level of polish, the sheer amount of stuff to do, the dungeons, the varied boss mechanics… with all that stuff, FF14 is on another level.

F60433f12a9c38826ca43202f7366da8?s=156&d=identicon

Garwoofoo

There is a fairly lengthy sequence between now and the start of Stormblood, yes, but it's all excellent. Not in any way the slog that the ARR->Heavensward stretch could be.

That ultimate attack from mecha pope tho right? Really glad you're enjoying it! Also, Alexander appearing at the end was some shit.

Still trying to catch the Navigators Brand. Everywhere says you need to visit Brewers Beacon on a clear day between 9am and 2pm ET and use a Yumizuno lure with gathering being over 290, mines well over that as that's where you should be at level 50 when you can take on the quest, my Fisher is level 69. I've been trying on and off for 2 months now, maybe longer!

Ebe71aac853092062596ff1844b992fc?s=156&d=identicon

Alastor

Does this help? I started the Relic quest for Shaowbringers today since I'm largely done with FF7. Best start to a relic quest chain they've done in ages, you go inside a characters mind and it all goes a bit Inception on you. And the new area theme is great.

A01e054d1cc3d0f9deabf58648dafcd3?s=156&d=identicon

wev

Yeah I already watched that and a bunch of others, it doesn't really tell you any more than I'd already said. It seems it's the one most people seem to struggle with (though he does use Powerful Hook, I'll give that a try)

I think I bought all my fish off the Marketboard and then turned them in to beat the quest.

Ebe71aac853092062596ff1844b992fc?s=156&d=identicon

Alastor

I enjoy fishing a lot but on the road to level cap I don't want to put up with Fishing's RNG to pass the job quest catch (it's still RNG even if you know what to do, which I think is how it should be btw, Fishing isn't fun if you know what you're going to catch every time after all).

If you haven't done any leves whatsoever they will absolutely skyrocket your Disciple of the Land job levels. An if you wanna' be rich well, I've said this before but if you want to properly climb down the rabbit hole of FFXIV crafting/gathering it's a bit of work at times but it's undeniably cool seeing the game system message 'Your Mineral Ore has sold for 500,000' or whatever as you you're just merrily skipping through Gridania, then you get into the Marketboard Wars and it gets pretty fun in its own way, like a game within a game. (also, there's a beast tribe for Crafters, so not the MIN/BTN/FSH but the others, Ixali in ARR and the Mogs in HW and in the more you do the more of the map you restore for them)

There's a zone just for gatherer's in Shadowbringers where you get to blow up monsters with a Roket Launcher.

EDIT - sorry I've said this about Crafting/Gathering about 50 times already. It really is good though -_-

Fishing was profitable, I jumped from being on 500,000 Gil at the end of the MSQ to Heavensward, to now having 1.4m. okay it's still not alot, but that jump was from selling sharks and coral, stuff culinarians use. Since they brought in the new fishing event thing where you go ocean fishing it seems everyone's doing it and now stuff I could sell for 5k each I cant sell at all, and despite only getting a couple of Gil each for them it's better to sell to the stores than deal with the hassle of the marketboard.

My rule right now is if there's 3 people selling something for less than 100gil a piece then don't bother sticking it on there.

Is there a easily accessible list of fish that crafter's need?

Ebe71aac853092062596ff1844b992fc?s=156&d=identicon

Alastor

You can just search/filter by demand on the Marketboard. The top of the list will be Lv80 Fish of course but just scroll down I guess?

I Marie Kondo'd my inventory today, only kept gear that was either current or I might want to glamour at some point, it kept meals that were relevant to being used for Dragoon or Fisher etc etc. Feels good, I know where everything is..

I've also been doing the relic quest line for Gae bolg, which won't be as good as .y other lance but it's another thing ticked off.

Ebe71aac853092062596ff1844b992fc?s=156&d=identicon

Can you marie kondo my and my four retainers inventories pls >_>

Glamour the Heavensward DRG artifact armour and never look back. They'll never top this lol

Bloody hell. I just bought some Heavensward armour (with alagan poetics) and it's basically a business-casual suit.

That thing is mental.

I’m currently halfway through the Dragonsong War quests, at the end of Heavensward, and FF14 has managed something completely unique. It’s a JRPG story that a) I understand, and b) I care about. Never thought I’d see the day.

Are there any side-quests people would recommend, aside from Hildibrand? From any level. I’ve largely been ignoring them, aside from the blue plus quests obviously.

Ebe71aac853092062596ff1844b992fc?s=156&d=identicon

Alastor

Not a sidequest and I know it's gonna' sound off putting because you'll have to Tank but if you thought ARR quests were very fetch questy and people were relying on you too much you than Dark Knight job quests lv30-50 are fucking amazing and resonated with many a player.

The base game is currently free to keep, until the 26 May. Just in case anyone was on the fence.

And on another note, just done Yanxia and Azim Steppe. Got to be two of the best BGMs in the whole game, back to back.
