finally beat Ex Leviathan tonight, but only just. I've queued this one so many times, it's been in my duty finder for ages and when I got a party together a couple of weeks back we were chipping away, but then one guy had to go and others voted to abandon and I've been waiting on it to come up for ages.

Then it did tonight, but the party were useless, we had one guy try to explain: run to the opposite side to the splash, take out the ads, only use the shield at a specific time, in fact, leave the shield to him, but people didn't listen, especially in regards to the shield and we were constantly wiping. Someone tried to vote to a abandon twice, I always chose no, especially as by that point there was less than 20 minutes left, let's just keep going.

We got there with 7 minutes to spare, so pretty happy to tick that and and ex Moggle Mog off my list tonight.

Ex Mog. When you get it in Trial Roulette and everyone is too fucking strong and stupid to not attack King Mog and trigger his wipe. :vomit: (Once, on Summoner I buffed up and cast all DoTs on him and then used Bane to transfer the dots to every single Moogle surrounding him. The dots were too strong and contributed to triggering a wipe, sad…now I don't think SMN even can do that now :/)

FFXIV Moogles are the cutest version of them too (Even Ysayle, Lady fucking Iceheart said they cute as fuck), especially if you do their quests and Beast Tribe dailies (crafting only that is)

I did Moggle Mog synched so we had to take out the ads to do it "properly", I've heard all sorts of horror stories, so was expecting the worst but we got through it properly.

What was amusing last night that in both fights I ended up with a tank called Sir Bard.

I've found a group to chat with on there now, I randomly watched someone on Twitch and the chat was friendly so I joined their discord, then got invited to a Ceremony of Eternal Bonding between two members of the community and added a couple as friends, I'm still with the rllmuk FC, but the only other two members who were regularly on haven't been on for a while now (one has recently started a new job after being out of work for a while so he's not had time to play).

Yeah, I saw the Wedding tweets. I went to one Weding once and I was the only fucker who went with a Tuxedo, I get to the Church and everyone is in Artifact Armour or dressed as a gimp.

I keep wanting to do Duty Roulette but then the game throws another Dungeon/Trial/Raid at me, that's without all of the sidequests, hunts, golden saucer stuff, beast tribe quests, levequests, guildquests (which I've not even touched!), PvP, gathering etc etc etc

That's a ridiculous amount of content to get through, and I'm only post-Heavensward, there's still two whole expansions to go yet! 😂

I also tried to do Dancer but not sure Ive got my head around it fully, will have to return to it at some point and give it another go, I can certainly see how people manage to level all their jobs up to the level cap without much issue (other than time obviously)

Dancer is easy to understand it just gives you a lot in one go since it starts at 60. I'll explain when I get home.

The main problem with playing as a Roegadyn is that 75% of the jobs make you look ridiculous, none more so than Dancer.

I suppose, I mean it's very pretty to watch, not sure it's as fun as Dragoon though 😍

It's fun if your attacks proc and not as fun when they don't, then it's fun when you do well over 100k in one attack with Technical step. They are extremely fun for dungeons, so much stupid aoe.

So, (Level 60) Dancer. The obvious main thing is their ability to dance with Standard Step which is literally 'smon says' as it turns your attacks seen below into coloure buttons to press in the order on the screen, no need to be fast just pretend it's a normal combo. First things first, you click on a party member and use Closed Position this does more stuff later but for now it will ensure anytime you use Standard Step that party member will get the same benefits…lookforward to everyone currying favour from you for your buffs. People love and want a Dancer in their team. :(

Dancer basically has two combo chains:

one for single target: Cascade - Fountain
One for aoe: Windmill - Bladeshower

Here's where it gets fun, because Cascade has a 50% chance of proccing Reverse Cascade and Fountain has a 50% of proccing Fountainfall so set at least one side of your main hotbar so you move from Cascade to Fountain, if either proc their respective skills, use them!

Same for the AOE rotation, Windmill can proc Rising Windmill and Bladeshower can proc Bloodshower, so again, set another side of your hotbar so it's just Windmill and Bladeshower next to Rising Windmill and Bloodshower and use either aoe/single rotation depending on if it's a boss or a mob pull in dungeons.

It gets more FUN

You also have Fan Dance I, Fan Dance II, Fan Dance III. You see that Fan gauge? Certain abilities give it feathers, you spend feathers to do these Fan dances, and yes, FD1 is single target and FD2 and FD3 are aoe. The things that get the feathers are the procced abilities from earlier, and either FD1 and FD2 can themselves, proc FD3 so even though it's aoe, use it on single target please. o/

To simplify AKA TL;DR =

-Designate a Dance Partner, assert your dominance.

If single target spam Cascade - Fountain and whenever either Reverse Cascade or Fountainfall flash than use them, but never do the first two in reverse order or whatever. The latter two MIGHT give you feathers, if so and it's still single target, use them for Fan Dance 1 or save up four just make sure you use them inbetween your main attacks, as the fan dances are off global cooldown and the attacks are on the global cooldown. (so Cascade -(Fan Dance 1) - Fountain)

If in a dungeon, spam Windmill - Bladeshower using either Rising Windmill or Bloodshower flash then use them, but never do the first two in reverse order or whatever. Anyway, I know I wrote a lot but I tried to set it out so you only nee to mind two sets of skills and only use one at time (for now). And no matter what, if you don't get a proc you are using A two button combo. A Dancer is SO fucking random, you might end up going 1234 1234 fan dance 12 FAN DANCE 3 MOTHERFUCKER or be stuck going 12 12 12 12 because you get no procs.

Finally, Dances are aoe no matter what, use them whenever it's off cooldown unless there's nothing there they are INSANELY powerful and melt trash (1000 potency at lv60, 1500 potency at lv80, whereas a DRG's highest aoe potency is what…600 :P? This is how Dancers hit 150k in one hit)

Trying to figure out how to use the Heavensward Dragoon skills properly, I get Eye of the Dragon increases the potency of my Jump attacks but I don't get how it leads into Wheeling Thrust and Geirskogul

Ah sorry I can't help with that one, job has changed som uch since I used it I doubt it's technicallyt he same class I played now, I mean I hear they lost Impulse Drive? That's insane! And Stormblood has probably the nicest visuals in the game and a lot of serious shit happens, so have fun. (Also the FFXII raids! You can do the Weeping City of Mhach at Lv60 if you want to fight your boy Ozma though)

Given that we're only getting one-third of a game when it does actually release, I'm not going to spoil part of that for myself with a demo as well.

I've attempted the demo three times now, and been interrupted by my pesky children every time.

What I've played, though, I like; it's shiny, the dialogue is surprisingly good, the music is great, and I really like the combat.

Bear in mind, I've never played the original past Gold Saucer, so I don't know how offensive it might be to OG fans…

I liked the demo a LOT, it put most of my concers about combat to rest. It's not really that spammy and you can hit weaknesses and perform certain action to stagger an enemy and get a damage multiplier, I was really impressed they managed to make Barret fun, was expecting to walk around holding the shoot button but he gets to electrocute and fry things as well as blow things out of the sky with a charge shot so not only is he necessary but he's fun to use. Cloud on the other hand gets to pump out serious damage with his 'Operative' stance (or whatever it was called) and I don't think the usefulness of this became AS apparent until the Ninja dodging guys when you could force an opening with Cloud's counter stance.

It all comes together with you using all attacks, abilities and party members and I can't imagine people saying the old PS1 style combat is better now surely.

Everything else…erm, I was geeking out a bit first time through in the sheer disbelief of finally playing it, but it looks solid, sounds great and the Mako Reactor felt like it did in the PS1. The demo as a whole felt very FFVII.

However, I know the demo cut a lot of stuff out but the sheer pacing of it made me feel like people are going to feel real pain when they blast through this in a day or two. I'm sure it will be a fullfilling few days though. Also I could be talking shit.

As for the game this threads about, the Little Ladies Day event has gone up, it's just a "run here talk to this person, then go here and talk to that person" quest which is a bit disappointing, especially after the puzzle element they threw into the Valentiones (yes, that's how it was spelt) quest, but the two pieces of equipment you get (a monocle and a corsage) are quite nice, I need to get the additional items for my apartment (a banner and a stage that's probably too big tbh)

Fishing is my favourite thing in FFXIV, but it's a pity that everyone is doing it thanks to the new Ocean fishing and that the bottom has dropped out of the marketplace for it, I was making a good amount selling different fish, I've sold fuck all since the Ocean Fishing was introduced.

You can search 'by demand' on the MB and just hunt for the one at the top. But the in demand ones will be the Lv80 most likely though the quest related ones will be in demand too because people like me buy the fish to progress the Fishing questline and not actually learn how to do it normally. :) (It's nice normally but when you're pressed for a specific one it's a bit annoying)

Playing the Market Boards is true hell, I feel like I've learn a life lesson from people who keep undercutting each other instead of just at least price matching, instead something that was worth 100,00 will be 95,000, then 90,000..to the point both people in the undercutting could have just got 95k and now they're going to get 40k.

I'd forgotten how ingenious this game's UI is. It's a bit messy, but the fact that they've gotten a full, uncompromised MMO working on a pad is a miracle.

Searching by demand just brings up what looks like the same list as a standard search and the fish on that, from what I recall, are cheap, easily available items.

My retainers are full of HQ fish I've caught during Ocean Fishing that sell for like 1 Gil a piece

Finished the post Heavensward MSQ and can now move onto Stormblood, which means new FSH and DRG questlines!

Nice, enjoy some of the nicest zones in the game! And spearfishing! As for the spoiler, that mission used to give you a title that spoiled the whole thing lol, they changed it now though. Stormblood has one of my favourite villain storylines in the game (but not who you might think)

I'm level 46, currently in Mor Dhana. I'm doing something with crystals. I've never understood the plots of these things.

How close am I to the first expansion? I assume I have to follow all the story quests, I can't just skip ahead like in WoW?

There's loads you can do other than the main story. I think you're a ways off from the end of A Realm Reborn yet, there are lists available that only give quest names so you don't spoil things for yourself.

I think when you meet Lady Iceheart it gets good, but then again I can't tell if you're folowing the story or merely commenting on quantity of quests rather than quality. She's a great character though.

Yeah it's a common complaint. I didn't mind them, there are at least a couple of new dungeons and trials in there to do, but the early chapters in particular are a long sequence of "go here, talk to this person, go back, talk to that person". As Alastor says it picks up quite significantly in the second half.

Yeah I've just met Iceheart and done her dungeon (great music in there). I think I have two full patches to go.

I'm definitely more interested in the story currently; I think that's a combination of playing it all really quickly so I retain the crazy names, and less of the Empire, who I find really, really dull.

But yeah that wasn't a complaint as such. It's the first real misstep in about 100 hours so I'll let it off, and by all accounts it's all fantastic from here on in.

(Although after having saved the entire world, I could have done with fewer 'okay now collect seven chickens' quests.)

Be warned: when you hit Heavensward, literally every character's voice changes because they changed voice studios and replaced every actor. It's VERY jarring, though probably on balance overall an improvement. Some of them are very different indeed.

Yeah, just hold on, you'll get a nice juicy cutscene for beating ARR. Then you'll soon be flying!!!! Also, I like the Empire, or at the very least I like Gaius. I'm not saying he's right to want to genocide beast races but after the intro to the game you can see why he fears the powers of Primals, and he's developed a bit in sidequests. (badass armour too)

There's just something really boring to me about the faux-politics stuff they try to write. Legatus this and praetorium that, words cribbed from Roman history. It reminds me of the nonsensical plot to FF12.

And the Japanese obsession with mechs does nothing for me, so I find the Empire's whole aesthetic off-putting.

They're kinda' generic at first with their 'subjugate everything, we're xenophobic and racist also' thing but there are individual members later on that I think fish them out a bit, I ended up respecting Gaius in a way even though to you he probably comes across as FFXIV Hitler with his whole genocide thing. I'm looking forward to Gar's Stormblood thoughts, since that adds a major Empire villain to the pot.

Also, Empire aside, the game has some good villains imo so I hope people can give them a chance, Lady Iceheart is the first of many I feel. I actually consider her entrance to ARR the soft start to Heavensward, since her story from day 1 is Heavenward's story so it feels like a natural progression.

But there's also Yotsuyu and the Shadowbringers villain. I will add, the Ascians, try to pay attention to them because they have plans that lasted in world years for players. And they too become more than moustache twirling villains.

Lady Icehearts story is absolutely awesome, there's another standout character in the post ARR stuff I liked, though her name escapes me now, plus post ARR into Heavensward is basically all Dragoon lore so it's automatically awesome
