Shadowbringers time! Didn't enjoy Stormblood as much as Heavensward, the last stretch was a bit of a slog. But excited to get started on current content.
Also, paid attention to the credits this time. I've worked with the voice actor for Kan E Senna! I didn't even realise it was her, I could have geeked out in real life.
I thought the Spoiler - click to showYotsuyu stuff was great, I thought she was a decent one and done bitch and I groaned when she survived the collapse of that building, then groaned again when she got a amnesia. but I felt really bad for Gosetsu when he tried to help her, the Tsukuyomi boss fight was so good and really enjoyed seeing her absolutely destroy her asshole brother.
That whole post reads like a shitty bot wrote it but I can't be bothered changing it.
Oh balls, it looks like I was commenting on your writing style, sorry. Not the case. I just read the last sentence in Hulk Hogan's voice because I'm a terrible, terrible person.
Shadowbringers is good, innit. You could make a case for this being an all-time great single-player JRPG, too, with the inclusion of NPC dungeon help.
And the music. Lordy the music.
Just finished the first dungeon, excited to see where the story goes. ahem is very clearly the same voice actor as ahem. Not sure if that's meant to be so obvious, but I assume there's some fun time travel malarkey on the way.
Spoiler - click to showThe minute that woman got stabbed, then started bleeding white stuff from her eyes and mouth I knew the story wasn't fucking around.
Haha, I'm so slow with this game, I'm still on Stormblood with my main, I think I'm on level 67 quests now so am slowly getting to the end, though I've barely been on with that character this week. Been a bit busy with PSO2 and Persona 5 Royal, I did however, continue with my final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Restarted
Not FFXIV-related but may be of interest - FFXI is getting new storyline content for the first time in five years. Apparently it's going to be the focus of multiple forthcoming updates and it's being led by one of the writers of Chains of Promathia (the best expansion) who has recently rejoined the team.
How on earth this near-20 year old game continues to survive with a subscription model is beyond me but fair play to them, it's clearly got a player base still.
My Dragoon reached level 80 yesterday and for a while I was torn as to what to do about it. Do I change job, grind till I'm at level 76 (the level for the section of the MSQ I'm on) or just keep on going ignoring that I'm missing out on large chunks of exp?
For the record I've just done the instance where Spoiler - click to showyou play as Thancred
I decided on the latter, partly because my next highest level job is 61 for DNC and I'm enjoying the story so much that I don't want to take a break from it, but primarily because Reii is a Dragoon, I obviously started as Lancer, and aside from that period where you used to have to take a second class to get your job, which they then got rid of, she's been a Dragoon through ARR, Heavensward, Stormblood and the majority of Shadowbringers, it feels right to me to keep her as that for all MSQ stuff, then do sidequests and roulettes and stuff to level up other jobs once I'm done with the story.
Yeah, levelling up isn't that hard, there's Challenge Log exp and all that where you get exp for doing 5 commendations and whatnot so you can save your 5th one for that. Also Beast Tribe exp is amazing iirc. Glad you're enjoying the story though, a fan of Emet-selch at all?
Spoiler - click to show Emet-Selch is the best villain in Final Fantasy tbh. It took like one expansion to turn the ascians from these cartoonishly evil supervillains into…maybe not sympathetic, but understandable? I feel like they'rem ore complex villains now, especially considering we may be a fragment of one of them.
Just got the final trial to go on Shadowbringers and I'm up to date MSQ wise prior to 5,4 landing in December. Not done all the additional stuff though.
Also got FSH to lvl 80, and am now levelling RDM and CUL
I've founded a Discord server for players over 30 years old that, it caters to all datacentres/servers, playing styles and availability. https://discord.gg/APqRQd
You stepping into the Bozja Battlefront? The new relic zone, and a good way to level up secondary classes eventually, good for your RDM. There's a questline you can do, I 'll find out where, to join these guys. You basically do Fates in between sidequests on a war torn field to collect Relic materials. It has it's own levelling system nd new unique skills (My Dancer has a cure and spell to make him run really fast). It's got Fates with actual mechanics now called 'Critical Engagements', you just join, type 'lfg' and accept an invite. The most famous of these so far is the Red Chocobo who absoloutely bombards the battlefield with comets (which is why he's memed as the next calamity). If you're very lucky you get invited to join the one on one duels, the only one of which so far I've seen is the one agaist the Jet…I've yet to see anyone beat it. I think it's pretty good, even if it is grindy.
At Rank 10, you get to join the maiin dungeon of the mode, Castrum Locus (or something like that). It's apparently a fairly long mega dungeon, I think it's a 40 man? Anyway, you know the Castrums, the Garlean bases type structures, I'ven ot been there but it's one of them.

Not yet, RDM is only lvl 58 and I've got all the side stuff from Stormblood onwards, maybe even some Heavensward, that I can use for that too. CUL is levelling real quick just doing Grand Company hand ins and the Ixali beast tribe quests (I was level 18 at the weekend, am lvl 48 now iirc)
Yes, crafting and gathering levelling is a joke now. (gearing it is another matter, but I like the the gathering scrip grind) I would like to one day be a mega rich crafter and help my friends raid with gear I made myself, since I no longer raid.
Spent the last two Saturdays doing Palace of the Dead, which has been great fun, we're using a set party and two members have their weapon and armour maxed out whilst myself and the other person have been basically starting as near total beginners (we've both been in solo but didn't make it far). Up to floor 90
Do you remember that party from way back that disbanded because they got destroyed and lost their leader? I managed all floors once with some friends and it gets super stressful at floor 175ish
It was waaaaaaaay back in ARR, you see a group run in to a dungeon, then later you see them having lost their leader and blaming each other for his death. Then in Tam Tara Deepcroft HM the lala of the group contacts you to say the healer (Edda?) has taken his severed head and is going to revive him with cult magic..
You stop her and the abomination she brings back and she falls off the arena into the abyss, having literally been blamed for everything initially (the lala actually wanted to apologize, hence him joining you) and wanting to just bring the guy back. :(
The cutscene afterwards shows you feeling things have finally settled……then the Lala seeing her ghost and absolutely shitting his pants. From then on you can see her ghost haunting you very rarely! But that was the story if Edda for a while until Deep Dungeon, which has I think for the first 100 floors you making your way to her to finally exorcise her for good. The floors after are extra challenge. (Hopefully the poor girl can rest at last though!)
This is going to be a pretty big patch for this games' standards. Mostly looking forward to the story and seeing how they end this expansion packs raid tier, they showed Cloud of Darkness of so far as the first fight which is quite odd to me since we already fought it in the 24 man raid 'World of Darkness' so I'm curious to see if its just Eden fucking with our heads again (most likely) or if they've come back. (not likely)
Also Emerald Weapon teaser, but we didn't see much. I'm really hoping we get to fight him underwater!
Also, I'm still behind on Bozja Battlefield stuff, I found what I played a relaxing timesink if very repetitive, but I didn't get to fight in the Citadel so I still have a lot to do.
This is your first patch you're up to date with now, Wev? Finally a patch trailer you don't need to avoid!
I'm not quite upto date (I'd done all the msq stuff)! I hadn't done Eden's Verse or Puppet Factory. I've now done the latter and I (think) I have one more Eden raid to go, I avoided the trailer during the live stream so will watch it once I've done those.
Whenever you want! If you can get a group even better to save you typing 'lfg' a lot. (Don't let that put you off, it's literally just typing that in shout when joining a Critical Encounter and accepting the first inv whenever it pops)
If you want to know where to start the quest…errr, Doman Enclave? Was quite a while ago, the first quest is pretty cool, real Inception style shit.
Eden's Verse is pretty cool, some Final Fantasy 8 stuff and some old ARR remix stuff.
Yeah I meant I didn't know where to start quest wise. Is it the Domain Enclave stuff that initially starts with you handing in random items in exchange for Gil?
I'm playing Final Fantasy 15 (PS5 freebie. And I know this is becoming boring, but 4K 60fps. Phwoar.). It's good! . I remember it being slagged off, but speaking as a FF newbie I'm having fun. It's very chill, literally chauffeuring you to your destination.
Is it meant to be in the same world as FF14, or is the beach club / La Noscea similarity just a coincidence?
To be fair, the version of FFXV you are playing is much more complete and/or polished than the version people played at launch I think. I said I'd go back to it when they finished bringing out dlc (the ones that happen when party members say 'brb lol') then they had to abruptly finish so maybe a replay is in the cards.
I dunno if it's still in the game on FFXV's side but the game did do a crossover with XIV at least.
Yeah I've got the assassin robes in my inventory, and some bizzare car paint job of Cindy draping her cleavage everywhere. Which you ask Cindy herself to install. Presumably the restraining order is in the post.
Haven't seen any FF14 crossover yet. As a FF noob, I didn't realise the FF14 log-in music was a FF staple, so that was a surprise when it popped up on the car radio!
I like the whole game tbh, surprised it got a slightly frosty reception. Especially after the previous single-player FF was 13 which, by all accounts, was a bit of a dud.
I've seen complaints that the story fails, because all the exciting stuff happens off-screen. But I think that's a huge positive. I can't stand the exaggerated anime bollocks that most JRPGs descend into, so I'm more than happy with a chilled, Slice of Life roadtrip.
I'm glad you're enjoying it, the four mains and their interactions are great, Fishing is one of the best of all mandatory JRPG fishing minigames, warp striking everywhere like a madman was pretty fun. Erm…what's his name is a good villain…etc <– don't let it be said I never have nice things to say about FFXV :^)
Also the music is amazing, I'd post my favourite but I'll wait til' you fight a certain earth based big boi first.
I'll explain my problems with it at some point later probably. At the time I thought it had the worst sidequests I've played in a JRPG though (which is a genre full of shit sidequesting) and the story thing was an issue for me too.
I will die on a hill for FF13 though!!!!1
EDIT - Fuck you, you and your rational positivity are making me want to finally return to this now, seeing as it's as actually as finished as it's going to be.
