I did make a long post on this but the forum software timed out and lost it.
A free to play Battle Royale from the Titanfall developers.
I'm really enjoying it, possibly more than I did Fortnite which I instantly found frustrating and terrifying to play but this feels different.
Ive only really played as Lifeline so can't comment on the other heroes, but I don't think the game hampers you for playing as a healer like other games do?
I have zero experience with other Battle Royale games (I downloaded Fortnite, played one match and deleted it) but the squad thing is a masterstroke. Especially forcing you to have three different roles, and encouraging you to stick together (you can revive downed teammates). It makes you feel useful even if your aim is naff. Can't hit people to save your life? Play a support class and help in other ways.
It'll definitely come alive with a group of three friends, rather than randoms, but it's one of those rare games that makes playing with randoms seem decent.
I'll probably jump on for a bit tonight, if I get the chance. Feel free to throw an invite my way if you see me.
Man, how betrayed must BioWare feel at this stage? Nobody's talking about Anthem anymore except to compare its broadly-disappointing and unstable demo to the relatively smooth launch of an entire free game that's been dropped on an unsuspecting internet by their own publisher.
I realise there are substantial differences to the experiences of the two – a game-by-game Battle Royale versus plot-driven(?) open world – but how many people looking for a new online shooter fix are going to commit to both, especially when one is free?

Sorry.

I've already got a group of three tonight, but definitely up for some games in future! Provided the game has legs.
Hark at friendy mcfriendface MPH.
I think this looks decent. Titanfall 2's traversal and general feel was great. Slap that in a BR game and I'm interested. Everyone's on PS4 I take it?
Titanfall 2's traversal … in a BR game
Apex doesn't have the wall running stuff. In an interview, one of the designers or producers says that it made the combat too unpredictable, which I imagine is a bigger problem with the limited respawns of a Battle Royale than when you just come back after every death.
Theres also been mention of the games lore (it's set in the Titanfall universe) and how the characters in this aren't the pilots from Titanfall.
I played one round last night. Didn't thing much of it, but maybe it'd be better with a proper team & comms? I think maybe I just don't like battle royale as a game type.

It's definitely a shift from what I'm used to. It's ten minutes of hiding followed by fifteen seconds of shooting. It's a LOT slower than a traditional deathmatch. But then maybe that's to it's credit – after all it's rare that the oldies complain that what the kids are into is too slow and considered, not frantic enough. :P
I'd definetly give it more than one game, first match I was a bit
But it started to click a little and I was enjoying it more. One stand out was I seperated from my team when we did our jump so I could raid a different building (part of the same complex) and they got taken out quickly. I managed to pick up their tokens whilst under fire and was trying to sneak my way to a drop point to bring them back (they'd bled out), didn't manage it but it was a proper adrenaline rush and I had one of the guys sporting for me and cheering me on.
I'm about tonight if anyone wants to team up.
Oh and as they've monetised it with you buying skins and stuff the actual selection of skins of absolutely dire. I'm not likely to ever but any, I certainly didn't for Fortnite (I did buy the Battle Pass for one season and got a bunch of stuff gradually through that) but that's had some really distinctive skins, likewise Overwatch makes opening a loot box (again we only ever use the unlock ones rather than buying any) genuinely exicing and my eldest still loves that game and likes collecting the skins (and thankfully doesn't care about buying them).

How much overlap is there likely to be between the co-op-only open-world rpg/shooter crowd and the all PvP, all the time Battle Royale crowd? I'm not saying there isn't, but the two games are likely to scratch very different itches.
If anything, I'd have thought Apex had the uphill struggle, with the titan that is Fortnite already dominating the space.
Was on for an hour or so last night, was struggling, some people have got really good really quick. Saw nearly everyone else on my list was playing The Division 2 beta so bailed, plus I was exhausted.
Played with one guy called Rambo something or other who already has over 130 kills as Bangalore. Myself and my other team mate were useless when it came to our only firefight (against the last squad), I got 60 damage, he got 0, Rambo (fittingly) almost won the match on his own
Jumped into a couple of matches earlier and did atrociously - not helped by being dropped into a different location every time (so I never got to learn where any caches were), often next to a squad that seemed to know exactly what they were doing. My longest life was about seven minutes, most of which was spent unarmed.
I think I kinda like it.
I'm finding its a good idea to break off from the group once you're heading to a location otherwise you all end up racing for the same loot. Also check the map when you're dropping, if I can see that we're heading to the hot zone I'll break off earlier and make my way to the rest of the group hiding in cover.
I'm still awful at it though.
A handful more quick games before work this morning - in my best effort yet, I survived for ten whole minutes (and nine seconds!) before being unceremoniously gunned down as I walked 'round a corner. I even managed to pick up two guns this time!
Definitely want to jump in with Real People at some point, though - I've not played with voice yet, and as useful as the Ping is I find it hard to keep track of where my squadmates are sometimes.
I did a bit of writing on this last night, if you wouldn't mind clicking through to my blog[/shameless plug] I don't get anything for it

f you see me playing send me an invite, if it's before 7:30pm I won't have my mic but would still be willing to party up
I don't know if it's related, but since Apex Legends launched, queues for Titanfall 2 multiplayer have gotten a lot quicker. I was able to get into a TTDM match this evening without waiting half an hour!
I think I like this, my issue is though that as huge Titanfall fan I really miss both the Titans and the agility of those games. I have only played maybe 5 or 6 rounds due to time and am finding it difficult to learn where I am going or get to grips with the fighting as it seems to start then I die. However am very interested to see where they take it.
So am really into this now. Move between playing on the ps and the X1 and due to time not a very high rank on either, however its a superb game with a great flow. Won 2 matches (one one each) and feel like the player base is mostly decent when queuing solo as people genuinely stick together, revive, respawn and tag up supplies.
Ps4 player base isnt as tough as the xbox one crowd would be my hot take.
This is very good. I'm shit at it.
My 13 year old won his first game on about the 10th attempt. :(
That's decent. I feel like the strategy has changed in the last week and the robot pathfinder is the current dominant character. I only have 5 total wins I think. 2 with mirage and 1 as pathfinder for definite. Its harder to play stealth lately though I find. It's design and controls is AAA level though.
He's won 2 more today but together we won a third. WHOOP WHOOP.
Love the Mirage.
Had a bad night when on with my buddy as kept hitting out reaching drops and then getting attacked. He is a flaming nightmare at times. Either lagging way behind when you are pushing to the ring or will land at a spot with enemies and take both guns in a crate or the ammo for your gun and then be like 'well I don't have a gun'. All the more infuriating that I use shotguns as know he doesn't so like to spilt the ammo about easier at the start, and one round he took the ammo, then when I was dead he spent 3 minutes looting and gearing up prior to then respawning me. Needless to say we got attacked by a sqaud within 40 seconds and downed.
After he went off I had a 4th, 1st and 2nd as Pathfinder. I find with him I get a lot of damage but not many kills, as like to wait and then use his abilities to reposition and either knock down a reloading enemy or flush someone out of cover.
I got Octane but not really sure what his purpose is or how to be decent with him yet.
I've not played this since they released Season 1, keep intending to go back but then not doing so, has S1 ended yet?
Nah got a while yet. I actually got the battle pass which I never have for any other game before as season 1 seemed to have a long time.
What does everyone play this on btw? Xbox PS or PC?
I was on PS6.
And Xbox One.
S1 runs for another couple of months. The Battle pass is utterly pointless.
I am big mean bunny on xbox and big_mean_bunny on PS because apparently Sony can't comprehend spaces.
Anyone who wants to play should add me. Couple of 3rds last night but got 5 kills in one game before I went off which is surely my high.
Months!? Feels like it's been out ages, might just jump back on once the kids are back at school, mostly so I'm not shown up by cavalcades kids and my daughter's friends …
Racked up a lot more kills and wins last week. Playing on the ps4 has really helped me on xbox I have found, the ps4 crowd are really bad at the game it seems. Just had a 10 kill round as kill leader and champion, including the final kill. So made me loads more confident about being aggressive.
Had several Wins on the xbox but find it more punishing if you get separated or make a mistake. I did win 2 in a row as Octane on Friday though in a squad of randoms, purely because one player was constantly barking instructions and me and the other guy were just following him so meant we were synced up nicely. We came 3rd in the final match we played after getting in as Mass shoot out and then getting jumped when low on health.
Really like how the game has already had several shifts of tactics too, and both consoles seem to have different styles. Stealth still seems a viable Tactic on Ps4.
It's because Apex is totally free on PS4. It has a paywall gateway on Xbox One via Live.
Big fan of the ps4 but it makes me grateful for Xbox Live. People on PS4 Apex never ping loot, even if you ask for a certain ammo or piece. You frequently got more lone or opposite droppers I find too, and way more disconnecting as soon as they are downed.
I personally think its because Sony has never had a great shooter on its platforms that hasn't also been on Xbox. Way more randoms using voice comms too, and having to go into a menu to adjust voice settings on Ps4 is a terrible design. It's like they've never really learned how to play.
Having bought the Xbox Live offer I posted in the Bargains thread, I now have a code for 1000 Apex coins (Xbox One) that I’m not going to use. Anyone here likely to find it of use?

Killzone, Resistance, Haze (lol)…
I had so much fun with the Killzone free multiplayer weekends.
Mag was okay I seem to recall. No idea what Haze is and never played resistance.
Haze was the project that finished Free Radical off
