Well, it won't do any game which relies primarily on mouse control - Valorant, League, CS:GO etc. The Series X also doesn't run Ableton, Photoshop, Pinnacle or any other of thousands (martsub please check) of creative/productivity apps. You might not need any of those, or see a need to upgrade, but the reality is the SeriesX is cheap access to a moderately well specced PC you can only play games and consume media on. A no brainer if you want to play games and consume media, but if you already have a decent PC it's utterly redundant.
Thanks for the help, guys. The question is moot anyway, frankly. I can't afford new pyjamas at the moment, never mind a games box.

Funny. You're a funny guy.
Mass Effect and Hitman appearing on Game Pass in quick succession tipped me over the edge; I'm selling the PS5.
It'll be the first time since the N64 era that I haven't owned all the major consoles, but I just can't justify having a PS5 and Series X when Game Pass provides this much entertainment.
I think I've even found a real, Actual Mum to buy it rather than a twonk who's going to flip it for more money.
PS5 is getting it's own version of Game Pass soon right? Might wanna' hold on. Although saying that, I don't care about the PS5 until Final Fantasy turns out to be a must have so eh

Speculation. And if they do, then based on the rumours it'll just be tiered subscriptions that combine PS+ with PS Now. No thanks.
Yeah, Game Pass feels too insane for anyone else to be able to match, but what do I know? All I do know is how staggeringly little Sony have managed to make me care about the PS5, I am quite surprised by how much I don't give a shit about it still.
God of War will be a biggie for me, but I'll pick it up in a few years when the PS5 Pro makes an appearance and the console has a backlog of cheaper games.
I'm in much the same boat - even if finding one wasn't nearly impossible, there's just nothing on the PS5 that makes the machine feel essential yet. God of War Ragnarok, maybe (if I ever finish the first one), and Horizon Forbidden West, but other than that?
It's very weird, I've somehow become a mainly-PC player by accident the last couple of months…
I have been trying to get the X now for a out 10 days and not even come close, other than spotting an extremely over priced bundle in stock at Game.
So, is no-one here bothered about Deathloop? Because, when I eventually can get a PS5, that's the game I'll be getting first.
Deathloop's a Bethesda game - it'll be on Xbox eventually (Wikipedia says PS5 exclusivity is a year, so September at the earliest), and probably on GamePass at that.

Yep, exactly this. Was announced as PS5 exclusive before the buyout and they honoured the agreement, but it'll come over on Game Pass eventually.

wait, are you MPH's secret mum console buyer
Danganronpa added to Game Pass today. I love Danganronpa, it's like a really dark and twisted take on Phoenix Wright. Great characters and writing. Well worth playing if you haven't already.
That's a surprise! Dunno if I'd have the time or patience to play it on a TV, it's always been a handheld 'play in bed like reading a book' thing for me. But good that more people will get to experience it now.
So I have subbmited an order for the Series X, with all access. My GamesPass Ult was due to expire next month so when I spotted they had been in stock with ASDA, Game I decided to go with this. I am now impatiently awaiting it's arrival.
Also it's going to go in my little office. I have a TV and a widescreen curved display in here that does 1440, how much hassle would it be to get a 1 to 2 splitter so I can mix between the two, get I'd need to change the res everytime but often when we play Minecraft now we just do a LAN game between the Xbox One and the PC so in those instances we'd want the Xbox on the TV.
Younger daughter wants to buy Miitopia. Miitopia is shit though so someone recommend a good RPG for a ten year old who likes to customise her characters. She's also not big on challenge so one of those JRPGs that you can complete in your sleep as long as you can keep tapping A would be perfect.
Bonus points if it's on gamepass but Switch, 3DS or DS good too.
Miitopia on Switch isn't shit though. You can not like it, fine, and it has shortcomings, but it's not shit.
When you cut Miitopia, it's mart who bleeds Bri.
Is Viva Pinata Trouble in Paradise on Gamepass?
Dragon Quest XI looks like a cartoon, is nice and simple, is very easy by default and is on Game Pass, so that would be my recommendation. It’s a lovely game. Although admittedly not big on character customisation.
World of final fantasy? Never played it so no idea if it's any good, but pretty sure it was made as an intro to jrpgs for kids.
Or something pokemony, or thinking slightly laterally - Fable?

I'll believe you, but I gave the demo an hour.
Dragon Quest is probably a good call.
Fable is too actiony. Turn-based jrpg combat doesn't stress her out.
Is Sims 4 on console? Also, Dragon Quest Builders is more targeted at that age group, rather than the main line RPGs.

She plays Sims4 nearly every day on an old Mac. I'll look up DQ Builders too.
Dragon Quest Builders 2 is on Game Pass, but it's more of a Minecraft thing than a JRPG.
What about Bug Fables? It's such a rip-off of Paper Mario I'm astonished Nintendo hasn't sued, but it's supposed to be good.
Stardew Valley if the gentle life of a farmer appeals. Or My Time at Portia if you want a more modern 3D version of the same sort of thing.
Slime Rancher is absolutely lovely and kept my 12-year-old completely absorbed for weeks. The evil slimes can be a bit stressful but it now has Casual Mode which basically removes all threat from the game - you can just trundle around capturing and breeding cute slimes and having a fine old time. It's not a JRPG but it's a great game.

Oh, I don't disagree. I played the demo and didn't get on with it, not my bag at all. But equally, I can see it's not shit, it's just not for me. Big difference.
Looking at the Game Pass list in the RPG section:
Dicey Dungeons
Dragon Quest Builders 2
Forager
Moonglow Bay (too slow for me, but she might like it)
My Time At Portia and Stardew Valley as Gar said
That's about it, everything else is either real time action or too complex.
Dicey Dungeons isn't an RPG, it's Slay the Spire but with dice.
Forager is a crafting game - collect stuff to build stuff to build other stuff. It's great, but not an RPG.
Moonglow Bay is slow as molasses, I quite enjoyed it until I got irrevocably stuck on scenery but I can't imagine a kid liking it at all.
I still think Dragon Quest XI is the obvious choice here. It's very kid-friendly.

Dunno if I agree here, both are a mix of genres that justifies the RPG categorisation. Then again, you could argue that all games are ones where you play a role, so everything's an RPG.
I'll show her them, they might grab her attention. What she gets hooked on seems fairly random, other than she hates challenge and loves customising things. So Sims, Animal Crossing and Mario Odyssey have been the biggest hits so far. Oh and the Toca Life virtual dollhouses.
I am downloading Dragon Quest 11 and Slime Rancher, we'll see how she gets on with them.
Stupid question: did you not get Happy Home Paradise?
Is that the home designer in Animal Crossing? If so yes, and it's been played to death.
It's the DLC for New Horizons on Switch, where you design vacation homes for characters on different islands. Just asking because you never asked for a discount on a download code.
I didn't, I think that might have delayed downloading it by as much as five minutes.
Slime Rancher is crack for children that age. Great choice.
Dragon Quest Builders is an RPG with Minecraftesque elements. The progression is through customised building rather than levelling a character. And trust me, most kids far prefer it to the mainline DQ series. The second entry is weaker than the first but still OK. I suspect Gar has never given it an hour.
I still say Trouble in Paradise is a good shout.
I remember Viva Pinata being fairly stressful, but maybe the casual mode would be ok. Well try Slime Rancher first.
Similarly if DQ doesn't land I'll show her DQB. That said DQ has a determined young woman with a massive sword and purple clothes so it's ticking all the right boxes. The cut-scenes in the trailer even look like they use the same 3d engine as The Miraculous Ladybug.
I suspect Gar has never given it an hour.
You've got me bang to rights there, I've had DQB2 downloaded for ages but never got around to giving it a go. From the sounds of it, it's less Minecrafty than I thought it would be and I should bump it up my list a bit.

Yeah Viva Pinata is worse for the heart rate than any horror game. It starts off all slow and bucolic, then by hour 4 you're screaming at some horse wanker who won't stop eating your hedgehogs while they're on their way to have sex.

We've all been there, to be fair.
TIP has a great sandbox mode. No stress.

DQB2 is amazing and extremely charming, the DQ artsyle is a perfect fit for the Minecraft genre of games, even if you don't like it in the mainline series I think you'll like it in this, a simple style for a simple game, although DQ monster design has always been top tier.
Viva Piñata feels like it needs a reboot of some kind. Never really played it by my missus was always on it and could see why it's so beloved.

Agreed - it was such a perfectly realised concept that even its own sequel was essentially just a slightly expanded version of the exact same thing.
The TV show was good too.
PSA for Xbox owners - the Energy Saver startup mode now downloads and applies updates to your games, which it didn't previously, so it's now by far the best option for your Xbox. It uses something insane like 20x less energy than Instant On, and the machine still boots up in seconds.
So Microsoft has announced there E3 like showcase for June 12th. I think last year was great with Bethesda, and I think this year will be evey better. So I'll break it down to what I think will be there and what I would like to be on the show.
I think starting the show with starfield would be a good guess. Having Todd Howard do a 10 minutes gameplay walkthrough would be appropriate here (it just works!). This man just gets me hyped for anything haha. Red fall is another one. I think we'll just see a gameplay trailer and maybe a release date too? I'm sure we'll see Forza motorsport. Just like last year with Horizon it will be shown and announced for this year. I'm interested because I'm sure it's a series only too (maybe I remember that wrong though). Save the best to last with Avowed! Now that they are fully under the Microsoft umbrella, what will this game be like with Microsoft money backing it. Outer worlds was amazing.
What I'll like to see the most of all is Fable. Microsoft announce titles too early, and I don't think this will release until 2024 unfortunately. I'm hoping though. I'm 50/50 with Hell Blade 2. I'll love to see gameplay of the combat as that was the weakest part of the first one.
It's should be a fun showcase overall. I do think though if it's best to do 3 or so state of play, Nintendo direct kinda thing instead of one big show a year.
I don't care about Starfield til' I see something worth actually caring about.
