Occasionally I get signed out across all devices. More of an irritation than a major inconvenience but any reason for that?

I'd assume it's a side effect of the "remember me" session expiring, though it's strange that it affects all devices at once. I'll have a dig and see what I can find.

Yeah, spoilers generally have stopped working for me (chrome/android) now, too.

The only issue if I go ahead and replace the current tag implementation with a non-JS version is that existing spoilers won't be converted automatically - you'd have to go back and edit the post (and actually change something) to get it to pick it up.

I’d say at this stage the board is probably small enough to make that a minor mod task. The longer you leave it, the longer that will take.

Okay, apparently it does convert old spoilers automagically. That's kind of a relief.

These ones are pure CSS so should be compatible with all modern browsers (anything that supports the CSS3 focus-within property, if you want to get technical) and don't rely on javascript that can be mucked up by turbolinks.

@Garwoofoo The YouTube video thing is a side-effect of nesting a block-level element (the embedded video) within an inline-level element (the span tag that wraps spoilers); unfortunately changing the spoiler wrapper to use a block-level element would disable markdown within spoilers, which I feel is a much more common use case than videos.

Dilemma.

Well, look - this membership isn't going to sustain two forums. I'm more than happy to keep this place open if there's consensus to stay, but this was only intended to be a temporary solution.

I guess I've got to reinstall Tapatalk now. Eugh.

Well, this was always likely to happen at some point.

I'll be honest, my inclination is to stay - we're all pretty comfortable here now, the forum does everything we need it to do (due entirely to aniki's sterling efforts) and it feels like it's more within our control. If we move back to OldSoc and it then goes down again for weeks with no communication from miskie, as has happened this time round, there'll be nothing we can do about it. At least here the admin is one of our most active members.

We can keep OldSoc as a posts archive, put redirect threads at the top of each forum and mothball the place.

However this isn't my decision so it would be good to get everyone's opinions. I'll happily go with whatever the majority view is - as long as we don't end up with confusion and people posting on both forums.

Yep. Gar's got it right. Miskie's done a great job over the years but it makes more sense to have the site maintained by an active member.

I do hope that Miskie is happy to leave the old site up though so that we can access our old chat.

I've been wondering if there's a way to export threads from the old place in a format that would be importable here, but it's unlikely to be a straightforward process. (The main issue would be posts from people who don't have an account here.) Probably wouldn't want to pull the entire board over wholesale, but there might be some threads worth moving?

If we are staying here, it might be worth posting something on the old board pointing to this place - there are a handful of regulars who've still not registered here and might miss it otherwise - Felt, Mart, bunny, probably others who I'm forgetting and have just mortally insulted.

I am! But posting on mobile is a pain when I want to share a massive list of what I've been playing in my time off… need to get on my laptop.

I'm here. Just not spending any time playing videogames. Instead I'm reading lots of RPGs and 2000AD.

Yeah, I'm mostly prepping RPG sessions (and maps for same) at the moment, and I know that's not really of interest to anybody but me.

I lurk, on a daily basis. My gaming time is still at a premium, though - so I don't really have much to contribute. It's all work / toddler / chores and the occasional hour on Far Cry 5 (currently) before crawling into bed.

One day, I'll be able to play games properly again and contribute like I used to. That time might be… some way off.

FYI, anyone on older Android devices (v.7.1.1 and earlier) might start seeing SSL errors here. I don't think it's going to impact many of you (Google Analytics says there's one person still on Android 6 – I'm guessing Dok – and everybody else is on 9 or later) but if it does lock anyone out completely let me know and I can try to replace it.

(Just kidding. Actually, I'm stuck on 8.1, but not that it matters because I rarely if ever use my phone for the internet – you see, I'm one of these oddballs that uses a phone as a, well, phone. With the occasional text to make myself feel semi-modern. I don't have mobile internet access at all because generally, I don't care for it, and only use my phone with the internet on trusted wireless networks. This is why I'm stuck on 8.1 – I'm using a really cheap prepaid phone that has decided to stop at 8.1, and that's fine with me. And when ancient dumbphones cost just as much or more than a decent cheap smartphone for my prepaid service, I figure I'll go with the one that can at least do something more than play Snake. Therefore, all of these wonderfully [and probably to you all, thankfully] rare posts come courtesy of the latest Firefox in Ubuntu GNU/Linux. So as you can see, I'm old fashioned, just not in the way you anticipated.)

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know. Maybe if I had a life and more money I would actually use an updated phone with mobile internet. But I don't. So there. It's a significant update from a few years back when I refused to even own a mobile phone at all.

Yeah, understood. I just found it funny - my dad still has a mobile flip phone that only calls and texts. Took ages to convince them to do video calls on my stepmum's phone, so it didn't cost the earth to call from Germany. He still persists in sending me emails instead of text messages. I find it hilarious.
