Rez is still incredible.
Rez is still incredible.
Civ VI is £11.something on the ps store at the moment. Spotted it because the DLC was in the weekend deals. Fairly sure I've not seen the main game in any of the 'deals & offers' but seemed too good to pass up. I've only ever played Civ Revolution on the PS3 previously and that was quite a time thief.
If Civ Rev is a time thief, Civ 6 is a time terrorist.
The Witcher 3 GOTY edition is £6.99. That's including all 16 dlc and every expansion, the first expansion, 'The Heart of Stone' is effectively the best sidequest in the game imo and 'Blood and Wine' is basically a game in itself, new region, gear, characters story and a perfect ending to a near perfect game. (probably still my game of this generation). For that price, worth a punt surely?
Where is this? Steam?
Bored me to tears by the time I got out the first area. So… no?
Oops, sorry, PSN.
I might be tempted to give it a try.
Oh hey, the best RTS of the last millennium is now free to download: https://wz2100.net/
Daddy needs a new pair of shoes.
I’ll be fascinated to see if daddy also needs revised expectations.

I put it up for that much purely for larks (and actually planned to put it up for more, except eBay had a monthly value limit). Not in any rush to sell it so if someone wants it that badly, fair play to them.

A friend has a contact at the National Videogame Museum in Sheffield - he's reaching out to see if they want it for the exhibit. If they're interested, I'll talk to them.
Heads up, Game Pass Ultimate folks - a year of EA Pass goes for roughly £20 on CDKeys, which converts to four months of GPU. That puts a year of GPU at £60-odd, less than it is if you buy a year of GPU direct (it stacks). Not a massive discount, but a discount nonetheless. Fill yer boots.
(For reference: I paid €22 for a year of EAP, converts to four months of GPU. Three months of GPU is €39. So, that's nice then…)
Hope you all did this when you could have: the loophole is now closed. Using a year of EA Play only converts to two months of GPU now, meaning it costs the same to use this method as it does to buy GPU directly. Oh well. Fun while it lasted.
Assassin's Creed Unity is currently 59p for the Xbox on cdkeys.com.

It's maybe not the best Assassin's Creed game but it is the most ambitious, probably still the nicest-looking game in the series, and its recreation of Paris is astonishing. Best of all it now runs at a locked 60fps on the Series X - which should transform the game given that it spluttered along at about 25fps originally.
Bought, ta!
I may never even play it, but 59p…
The Epic Games Store have got one of their sales on at the moment with the magic replenishing £10 voucher. You can use it on anything that's £13.99 or more, and using one earns you another one. You can get Metro Exodus for £3.99 if you like. Then you could go off and get another £10 off something else. And so on.
I'm going to ask you to name more games to support the and so on statement felt.
I'm going to guess that Felt still has a few Steam games he hasn't played and shouldn't be buying new games anyway.
tetris effect is on egs, yeah?
Amazon have Yakuza: Like a Dragon for £18.60 on Xbox.
It might be the best game in the series and it's definitely a great jumping-on point.
If I buy that, it'll be on Game Pass tomorrow.
It's a fairly safe bet it'll be on Game Pass eventually, given the whole of the rest of the series is currently on there, but it's impossible to say how long that might take.

This is actually quite good. There's still a fair amount of random jank (I've seen dozens of flying NPCs), but it's otherwise beautiful for such an old game.
It's crazy how different modern AC games are. I don't think you'd know they were even related if you hadn't been paying attention.
Tell Me Why is free on Xbox (and I think also PC) on the Microsoft store at the moment - the general assumption is that it's because June is Pride month.
It's an episodic adventure by the Life is Strange people, and it's really good. I suspect anyone who wants to play it will already have done so as it's on GamePass, but if not, do check it out.
Thanks! I don't have Gamepass so I grabbed it.
Did anyone get the PC engine Mini previously? It's currently 59quid on Amazon, just in case anyone else have been watching out for a price drop.
Everybody's Golf PS4 is 7 quid on the store right now, if anyone hasn't played it.

It’s brilliant, get it. If the DLC courses are on sale, get those too.
Bought it, downloaded it, played the first course. These games are just great aren't they. Bit sad that this doesn't have the 'advanced' swing mode from the PS3 game, but the old bar is still fun.
Sadly the DLC isn't on sale, so each course is almost as much as the full game right now. I'll wait and see how bored I get of the included courses.
Ah cool, I will get that. I got Days gone today from Tesco for 6.25 too so my PS4 games collection will be upto about 6 then with Golf.
Another massive 2000AD humble bundle just launched. £18 will get you everything that was in last year's bundle and about the same again (so maybe 80 collections?).
If you bought last year's bundle then I think the £13 tier is all the new stuff. Mostly stuff from the Dredd Megazine.
Heads-up: Diablo III Ultimate Evil Edition and its Rise of the Necromancer DLC both appear to be free to download on Xbox for anyone who's got either Gold or Game Pass Ultimate.
Not sure if this is an error or not so you might want to jump on this quickly.
Activision Blizzard can get fucked, I'm not giving them the time of day.

Yeah, it's a bribe. Avoid.
The excellent sci-fi time travel mecha visual novel 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim is 55% off on PSN, down to £22.50.
Been thinking of getting Civilization VI on Xbox for a while, as I don't really play games on PC any more these days and they've recently released an Anthology edition containing both expansions and the New Frontiers DLC packs - however at £64.99 it was far too expensive.
Happily it appears to be down to £25.99 this week so I think that's going to get bought.
What is the flow of this series like? I hear you go from sword and shields and spear type warfare to military and nukes, is that something you have no control over?
You choose what technology to develop, but the other civilizations work along the same trees; you could in theory stay with spearmen, but it wouldn't work out too well for you.
Damn, the arms race in Total War: Shogun 2 was stressful as hell, but this game sounds a bit more chill than that.
It is indeed quite chill (although Civ 6 is one of the more complex iterations) - all turn-based so you can take as much time as you like. I’ve loved the series since the very first game, never played it on console before but as far as I’m aware it’s the full thing, not a cut-down compromise like Civ Rev or anything.
Nuking Gandhi never loses its appeal.
Humankind is free on Gamepass (at least on PC). It's basically Civ.
Final Fantasy XIII is also now on Gamepass apparently, I'm sure me and fellow FFXIII enjoyer Gar will be the only people who care but this a big dub for both of us
Will also look into Humankind!
Is all of FF13 like the latter half of FF15, where it funnels you straight through the story? I think I'll skip it if so.
No, it's like the reverse: the first half is very tightly controlled and linear, then it opens out completely at around the 25 hour mark.
I genuinely really like it. It's got my favourite battle gameplay of the whole series, and when it opens up it kind of takes the best bits of FF12 where you're roaming all over the place picking off high-level targets.
I'm not sure I want to play through it all again, though I would really like to play FF13-2 and FF13-3 when they inevitably hit Game Pass and I'm sure I'll need to refamiliarise myself with the original if I want to do that.

This always makes me think of anime fans enthusiastically telling me that I should watch One Piece because it gets really good after 80 episodes.
I guess the question about FFXIII is: are those first 25 hours enjoyable, or will I be slogging through them with gritted teeth, hoping that I like the back half enough to justify it?
I liked it, but my PS3 died after 26-ish hours, I lost the save, and I couldn't bring myself to replay it all again. Maybe I'll make a return at some point, but I'd have to hook the PS3 back up again to do it.
You've got a pretty high tolerance for JRPGs, I think you'll be fine. The battle system is great, although it takes a while to take the training wheels off. Characters are the usual mix of perfectly fine and teeth-grindingly annoying. The music is excellent. At least give the first couple of hours a whirl and see what you think (I don't know how well it's aged, so don't want to be too enthusiastic here, but I think it should fine).
My biggest issue with the opening is that it drops you in the middle of a complicated world with weird, similar-sounding terminology all over the place and just expects you to keep up/work it out/care. I got the hang of it eventually, but it doesn't exactly meet you halfway.
